Rumba – “You Can Dance!” champ Mai Tran and Dancesation. Choreography by Erik Cyr

DanceSport Place owners, Erik and Melissa Cyr, were invited to choreograph two of the numbers for the show. Erik created a gorgeous romantic rumba routine, in which he and Mai Tran, winners of the “You Can Dance!” show, reprised a segment of their championship routine.

He also choreographed an upbeat quickstep number, in collaboration with fellow professionals, Sasha Andreev, C.J. Jetphukthai & Petra Chovancova.

Melissa choreographed a wistful Argentine Tango, which was brilliantly executed by several Dancesation members and the professional dancers, including Yiri Kosydar.  Being 6 months pregnant, she was unable to dance in the show herself, but enjoyed creating the tango and seeing it from the audience’s perspective.

Two additional ballroom numbers were commissioned from the “You Can Dance!” and Dancesation dancers. C.J. Jetphukthai created a dreamy, airy Viennese Waltz and Sasha Andreev choreographed a powerful American Tango.

All five ballroom numbers were well received and helped advanced the profile of ballroom dancing to the massive audience that will view them in the video release. The anticipated release date for this spectacular production will be in January 7, 2011.
